Elastic wave theory based on homogeneous and continuous medium model may lead to incorrect explanation of seismic response to geological structure and may even lead to erroneous explanation.

The accuracy of the model is verified by numerical examples, and then the field seismic response of homogeneous soil layers is analyzed.

Using the theory of random vibration, the problem of dynamic response of the non homogeneous soil layer to earthquake is studied in the present paper.
