Leave the hot copper on the burner to cool slowly.

Rub the mixture over the copper, using steel wool if the pot is badly tarnished, then rinse in hot water.

But, no matter how simplistic this design is, you will still have to solder copper pipe joints if you want to tap into your existing hot water system.
