Creating a fake data layer is a useful UI development practice because the persistence layer to be used by the final application is often unavailable to front-end developers.

Because there are no links between the development and the front-end problem-tracking systems, time is wasted tracing what went wrong (Figure 1).

This is a tough task for developers, who may have plenty of back-end and front-end development experience but limited knowledge of design.
