The cross girder center segments of the bents were field bolted.

Thanks to ESO's Wide Field Imager camera, bolted onto a 2.2-m (7.2 ft) scope at La Silla, in the high desert of northern Chile, we don't have to guess anymore.

All field splices were bolted using ASTM A325 hex head bolts.
