XMetal's default editing interface is called the "normal" or "word processing" view, and will appear quite familiar at first (to Microsoft word users especially).

As you can see, the editing interface is much like that of any other WYSIWYG word processor screen (the OpenOffice user interface is beyond the scope of this article).
