Usage 用法说明
In British English, the predicative use of the adjective sick in sense 2, to mean ‘ill’, as in He had to cancel his holiday because he was sick, is still considered non-standard by some people, although it is standard in American English. The exception to this is its use in the phrase off sick (‘away on sick leave’) which is acceptable in British English. See also Usage Note at ILL. 在英国英语中,把释义 2 中的 sick 作为表语形容词使用,表示“ ill ”的含义,如 He had to cancel his holiday because he was sick (他因病取消了休假)被一些人认为是不够规范的,尽管在美国英语中这是标准用法。例外的情况是对于短语 off sick (休病假)的使用,这一用法在英国英语中是可以接受的。另见 ILL 的用法说明。
