The most common cause of fungal meningitis, Cryptococcosis (torulosis) is a fungal disease with a marked predilection for lung and brain.
Griseofulvin is not effective in the following: bacterial infections, candidiasis, histoplasmosis, actinomycosis, sporotrichosis, chromoblastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, North American blastomycosis, cryptococcosis (torulosis), tinea versicolor and nocardiosis.
From the several cases of human cryptococcosis (torulosis or European blastomycosis) reported from Great Britain it is apparent that this is not an uncommon mycosis in this part of the world.
