Any of several low-growing plants which grow on stony ground; especially (in early use) †the rock cress Arabidopsis petraea (obsolete), and (in later use) any plant of the Mediterranean genus Aethionema (family Brassicaceae (Cruciferae)), commonly cultivated in rock gardens.
