At the foot of the fall some long distant collapse had made an undercliff, nearly flat, across which the water loitered in a broad shallow rock basin, till it reached another fall.
At one stage we found ourselves walking the ‘undercliff’, where soft strata have eroded into the rockface enough to create walkable paths midway up a cliff.
The casks were hauled up the path to the undercliff and loaded into carts, the crew gathered on the narrow beach and paid off, the ship turned about and set on her way back to Islanoray.
