He researched and wrote his ChM thesis on the treatment of mediastinal tumours and MD thesis on the management of chronic retention.
At the institute he investigated advanced endoscopic techniques for tissue removal, which led to his ChM thesis on endoscopic liquidisation of the prostate bladder and kidney.
After a two-year research fellowship at the Centre for Hip Surgery at Wrightington Hospital, he was awarded the degree of Master of Surgery (ChM).
