Hist. 13. 80, taken to be from ancient Greek μακρόκωλος long-limbed from μακρός + κῶλον limb. The preferable reading macrocollum is believed to derive from an unattested ancient Greek *μακρόκολλον a wide sheet of papyrus from μακρός + κόλλα glue.
