1.2Edmund II (c.980–1016), son of Ethelred the Unready, reigned 1016; known as Edmund Ironside. Edmund led the resistance to Canute's forces in 1015, but was eventually defeated and forced to divide the kingdom with Canute. On Edmund's death Canute became king of all England.
