1A county of east central Wales, on the border with England, formed in 1974 from the former counties of Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire, and most of Breconshire; administrative centre, Llandrindod Wells.
A former Welsh kingdom. At its most powerful in the early 12th century, by 1284 it had been conquered by the English.
