From Italian improvviso, †improviso (of a composition in music, verse, or prose) extempore, specific sense development of improvviso (of a person) unprepared, (of a thing or event) unexpected, sudden from classical Latin imprōvīsus unforeseen, unexpected from im- + prōvīsus, past participle of prōvidēre.
