(born 1930), US composer and lyricist; full name Stephen Joshua Sondheim. He became famous with his lyrics for Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story (1957). He has since written a number of musicals, including A Little Night Music (1973), Sweeney Todd (1979), and Sunday in the Park with George (1984).
